Event Reflection: City Council

Well, we did it! Cait, Maria, Amy, and I (Sophie) went to city council and testified! We were joined for moral support by Ida and Ashley. We spoken on the need for a public shelter, sanctuary city, and for Eugene protect the climate by adopting the updates to the Climate Recovery Ordinance and by divesting from US Bank.

There is going to be a city council work session (no public comment) to discuss a newly revised draft of the Sanctuary ordinance on Wednesday at 12.

Other issues that came up at city council:

-Zoning Issues: A new apartment building going up in the south hills is being met with resistance. Also, sounds like more work is being proposed for Willamette St. and a group called We Can are like WTF, let’s put some money into West Eugene instead of making Willamette St. the Taj Mahal of roads.

Affordable Housing: Did Councilmen George call the homeless “trash”?
